Agriculture & the Environment

 

Class Discussion

Today's class will attempt to put the student in the situation of the farmer, rancher, & grower.   It will attempt to briefly familiarize students with some of the issues and problems confronting the modern agribusiness person.

 Writing Exercise Four is Due this Class Session.

Field Trip

Field trip # 4 on Sustainable Development is due to be reported nest week.  You will be posting your field trip report on the Lesson Board when you complete your trip. Your narrative for this trip must be posted to the Lesson board by the end of session 9.

Lesson Board:

Discussion Questions: The following questions are designed to familiarize students with some of the problems facing farmers & growers in Florida.  Discussion questions due at end of this class session (Saturday at 5 pm.)
  1. What is "mosaic virus," what are its symptoms, and how does it damage a farmer's sugar cane crop?
  2. Briefly describe the process by which sugar is made.
  3. What is sugar's sweetest deal? Please explain
  4. Explain what Sugar PACS are and how they operate.
  5. Explain who are the major producers and consumers of "meat" in the world and what kind of meat they produce.
  6. How does meat production impact the rest of the planet's environment.
  7. How is meat production related to human disease?

Final Project

 

Please be prepared to turn your final project in to the instructor, posting it to the Lesson board, by the end of class session nine. Any late work will not be credited.

Journal Writing
Continue writing in your journal. Journals are due by the end of session 9. Remember that the journal must be in Word Format, must be attached to the Lesson board and in the interest of being opened and read, must not include pictures.
