MLS 4308C Hematology/Hemostasis  
This course involves the study of human blood ontogeny, kinetics, and pathophysiology. Lectures and laboratory integrate theory with application of analytical techniques used to diagnose and monitor hematological disease and disorders of hemostasis. Course materials are available to students over the web which they can access conveniently. Active participation is required of students in the course. A well equipped students' laboratory and classroom is available with state of the art technology. A strong laboratory component is built into the curriculum and students are expected to acquire high level of performance in the laboratory exercises. Case studies and scenarios are presented to augment learning. 

This course will evolve into an internet course such that student at a distance can register and take the course. The logistics of ensuring that the laboratory component is not lost has to be worked out. It may be possible for students taking the internet course to fulfill the laboratory component at a clinical laboratory where they are gainfully employed. This can be arranged especially for articulated students who are employed as clinical laboratory technicians and are seeking a baccalaureate degree in clinical laboratory science.    

Research interests include hemoglobin haplotypes in sickle cell disease.
