Objectives:
Describe the steps of the integument assessment.
Recognize the normal parameters and common variations of the integument assessment.
Systematically perform an integument assessment.
Document the integument assessment in an acceptable format.

Readings, Assignments, and Lab

  • Bring: Stethoscope, textbook, workbook, centimeter rule.
  • Reading: Seidel et al. Chapter 7
  • Workbook: Ch. 7 - anatomy review, concepts application
  • Define: alopecia, dermatomal, ecchymosis, generalized, keloid, Mongolian spots, nevus, petechiae, plaque, telangiectasias, vesicle.
  • Interactive Challenge: Skin, Hair and Nails.
  • Practice: Assessment of the skin.
  • Crossover to Clinical Practice: Take a history, assess heart, blood vessels, chest, lungs, skin, hair, and nails on lab partner or an assigned client.
  • Document: Findings on flow sheet and in a narrative note
