Cultural and Environmental Impacts of Military Bomb Testing in Hawaii

Students will be expected to discuss the discussion questions associated with this case in class.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What were the human and environmental consequences of using this island as a bombing range.

  2. Please describe the environmental characteristics of Kaho'olawe island.

  3. What ethical obligations were owed the native people of this island?

  4. What ethical obligations were owed to the ecology of this island itself?

  5. Howe was the conflict regarding this island eventually resolved?

  6. Are all parties satisfied that cleanup efforts on the island are adequate? If not adequate, how so?
