Complete two quizzes on writing words that contain the sound

Learn how sound patterns work. (Phonology)

Analyze (as a class) words to determine rules concerning the beginning, end, middle, stress, and tone of words.

Learn how word patterns work or are grouped together (Morphology)

Information Literacy

Discuss and write rules for word parts using prefixes, infixes, and suffixes.

Form and use plurals.

Use alienable and inalienable nouns.

Learn how to put words together in sentences. (Syntax)

Information Literacy

Describe rules following English examples of passive and active voice; combining sentences, and word order (SOV, SVO, and VSO).

Describe how to form negatives and what to stress in sentences.

Learn the different meanings of words (polysemy).

Learn the different applications of words (spot/stain).

Learn classification of categories.

Information Literacy

Describe different meanings for words collected, how to distinguish between different meanings (ele-); and different super, standard and subordinate classificatory words.

Understand the issues involved in language loss and retention.

Cultural Diversity,

Ethics

Research articles and books to describe what language loss means and what methods are being used to reverse loss. Student papers will be posted on a website.

Work in groups to develop materials for teaching children and young adults a language

Problem solving

Create flash cards, books, interactive internet, PowerPoint, and CD material regarding an oral language.

Present the language material to pre-school, elementary, middle, and high school students. (Service Learning.)

Community involvement

Fulfill part of their service learning by attending a school and teaching about language.

Create, modify, and evaluate a language curriculum to fulfill "foreign language" requirement for oral languages.

Problem solving

Complete an evaluation form of all their activities to suggest areas of improvement, changes, and assess their own proficiency level at writing language.
