Course Description

Major concepts of inflammation, wounds, infections, pain and immune deficiency as well as basic concepts underlying pathological processes are examined. Physiological responses to environment, sociocultural, genetic, lifestyle, and developmental factors are stressed with emphasis on practical application from an interdisciplinary and holistic perspective. Processes and consequences of multiple system pathologies are presented. This course complements Nur 3145 - Chemical. Herbal, and Nutritional Therapies. 

Philosophy of Teaching and Learning

Students are active learners and seek to be involved in setting and achieving personal goals.  Interdisciplinary and holistic approaches are essential for integrating into the nursing and occupational therapy praxis those strategies which empower clients to achieve self-actualizing transitions through life. Evaluation is derived from collaboration and negotiation between students and teachers, and students and students. Application and synthesis of course content occurs dynamically among distance, classroom, and practice settings.

Explored patterns and linkages between and among multiple system pathologies.
