Reading: Creative outreach to students in classrooms might very well require that teachers reflect community values: http://eric.uoregon.edu/publications/digests/digest111.html |
Internet Links: Read the PROMO excerpt for the Community HS video and think of a similar secondary school that is an alternative theme school that has for its theme your content area, e.g., Drama School or Mathematics School of Language Arts School. |
Community
High School (CHS) is an alternative school
committed to excellence and diversity. At CHS, "alternative"
means that a variety of teaching styles and learning
environments are employed to address the diverse needs and
interests of its students. Faculty, staff, students,
and parents work together to build a dynamic alternative to
traditional education. |
Lesson: |
ASSIGNMENT: You are on the "short list" after the
first round of interviews for a faculty position at a new
neighborhood high school whose goal is to be different and
innovative. You are one of three finalists. |
The principal and the other members of the search
committee have asked the three of you to submit a lesson
plan that demonstrates your belief that all students can be
successful learners and--at the same time--a lesson plan
that will engage, motivate, and challenge your students. |
Using some of the ideas from your above survey
(specifically, learning strategies and resources), write the
lesson plan that will get you the job in this brand new
school. |
E-mail your work: jhoneych@fgcu.edu |
EVALUATION: Save your file. You might
choose to include work from this lesson in your
portfolio. |
