Objectives:
Describe the steps of the Head, Neck, Mouth, Nose and Pharynx assessment.
Recognize the normal parameters and common variations of Head, Neck, Mouth, Nose and Pharynx assessment.
Systematically perform a Head, Neck, Mouth, Nose and Pharynx assessment.
Document the Head, Neck, Mouth, Nose and Pharynx assessment.

Readings, Assignments, and Lab

  • Bring: Textbook, workbook, stethescope.
  • Need in Lab: Tongue blade, flashlight, water.
  • Reading: Seidel et al. Chapter 9 - anoatomy review; Chapter 11 - anatomy review.
  • Videos: Head, Nose, Mouth, and Neck.
  • Practice: Assessment of the head, nose, mouth, and neck.
  • Interactive Challenge: Head, Neck, Nose, Mouth and Throat.
  • Document: Findings in a narrative note
  • Crossover to Clinical Practice: Assess head, nose, mouth, and neck on lab partner and/or assigned patient. Perform and document assessments of all other systems.
