Learning Objectives 
    1. Describe the primary functions of the respiratory system. 
    2. Explain how the delicate respiratory exchange surfaces are protected from pathogens, debris, and other hazards. 
    3. Identify the organs of the upper respiratory system and describe their functions. 
    4. Describe the larynx and discuss its role in normal breathing and sound production. 
    5. Discuss the structure of the extrapulmonary airways. 
    6. Describe the superficial anatomy of the lungs, the structure of a pulmonary lobule, and the functional anatomy of the alveoli. 
     


 
Activity One 
    This assignment will be completed individually.   

    1. Your instructor will provide key information about a location in the respiratory tract.  

    2. You will be asked to name the location of Donna in the respiratory tract.  Write the location on a piece of paper.   

    3. Each student will have the opportunity to answer.   

    4. Your instructor will review the pathway after the activity.

Activity Two 

    1. Based on your work in Activity One, describe the pathway of a molecule of oxygen from its entry in the nasal passageway to its absorption from an alveolus in the lungs.  

    2. Explain what occurs at each stage of the passageway.
