This is the second part of a two-semester
course intended for health science majors.
Students will investigate the structure
and function of human body systems, including autonomic, sensory, endocrine,
reproductive, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory,
and renal systems. The course will also cover concepts pertaining to blood,
immunity and human development. The curriculum is inquiry based and fully
integrated with laboratory and/or field experiences which emphasize active
learning strategies.
The course will be delivered in a flexible
format. Students learn about the different human anatomy and physiology
concepts by completing activities both in-class and on-line. In-class sessions
are conducted either on a Friday evening or on a Saturday. In-between sessions,
students access on-line activities on the course web site and communicate,
discuss, or interact with others using an asynchronous communication tool
called the WebBoard.
Student learning will be assessed using
traditional and alternative strategies that include completion of two objective
and hands-on exams, group case study analysis, participation in on-line
discussions, and a comprehensive case study.
