"Get Me a Job" Skills

The first step to getting that great job is knowing one is available.  Check the want-ads daily, look on bulletin boards at public shopping centers, and most important, talk to people!  Let your friends and relatives know you are looking for a job, and what types of jobs you would be interested in.  This is called networking, and is very helpful in getting the word out.

Think about your strengths and weaknesses when trying to decide what jobs to apply for. Most important are your interests.  Don't limit yourself by not applying for a job because your not sure if you can do it.  If the job sounds interesting to you, go for it.  Let the interviewer decide if you're right for the job.  She won't hire you if she doesn't think you're qualified.

Once you have spotted a job that you would like to apply for, you need to fill out an application.  You should present yourself just as wonderfully when you are going in for the application, as when you are going in for the interview.  If you don't, you might not get the interview!

Click here for tips and information about filling out applications.

When you have completed your application, ask who will be giving the interview, and give your application to him/her personally if possible. This way the interviewer can put a face with your application and will remember you better.  Ask if you can schedule an interview, or when you can expect to hear from someone.  If the company doesn't contact you, stop by again in a couple of days.

When the company calls to schedule your interview, remember, the sooner the better!  This will make you appear eager, which is what you are!  Besides, the job situation can change if your interview is too far off.

Good luck to you on getting that great job! For more information, check out the links below.
