The Application:

Tips:
have at least 2 working pens with you
smile politely and make eye contact with the person giving you the application
show them you care about their business - be aware of the work that is going on and disrupt as little as possible
don't interrupt a customer when requesting the application
complete the application right away
if an area is not provided for completing the application, choose an area that is out of the way and won't interfere with business
if a clipboard or table is not provided, look for another flat surface to write on, but don't use the store merchandise (ex: box of crackers, shoebox, etc.)
keep the paper as neat, clean, and flat as possible - don't fold the application
keep a small index card or paper with the information asked most often - click here for suggestions
take your time and fill out the application with your neatest printing
when your application is complete, check for any errors
return to the person who gave you the application and ask who will be giving the interview - ask to see that person if possible

 

 

Sample information to put on a card and take with you:

your complete address, including zip code
schools you attended - address and dates
previous employers - address, dates, salary, responsibilities
references - name, address, phone number (usually may not be a relative)
emergency contact - name, address, phone number
