Objectives:
Describe the steps of the Neurological assessment.
Recognize the normal parameters and common variations of the Neurological assessment.
Systematically perform a Neurological assessment.
Document the Neurological assessment in an acceptable format.

Readings, Assignments, and Lab

  • Bring: Textbook, workbook
  • Need in Lab: Cranial nerve testing supplies, flashlight, reflex hammer, tuning forks.
  • Reading: Seidel et al. Chapter 21
  • Workbook: Ch. 21 - anatomy review, concepts application.
  • Define: Ch. 21- all terms, matching, anatomy review, concepts application.
  • Video: Motor System and Reflexes; Cranial Nerves and Sensory System
  • Interactive Challenge: Neurological System.
  • Practice: Assessment of neurological system, reflexes, cranial nerves, and senses.
  • Crossover to Clinical Practice: Perform neurological assessment using the GCS, (neurovascular - circulation and sensation), and reflexes on lab partner &/or an assigned client. Perform and document assessments of all previously studied systems.
  • Document: Findings on flow sheet and in a narrative note.
