Doing Better in School

A lot of kids with learning disabilities (LD) do not like school.  After all, it is not fun to have problems learning, especially when most of the other kids are not having problems.  This may be why so many kids with learning disabilities get into trouble at school.  Here are some tips to help you get along and do better in school.  After all you're there for most of the day anyway, you might as well make the best of it!

WHEN THINGS GET TOUGH, TALK ABOUT IT!

A lot of time kids with learning disabilities don't share how they are feeling with other people.  Sooner or later these feelings come out, sometimes in strange ways.  They may either stop doing their work , get into fights, yell or talk back to other people, even hurt another person's feelings.  When this happens they get into trouble and end up feeling even worse.  Pick someone you like and trust and talk to them, you'll feel better and stay out of trouble.

KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!

Don't be ashamed of yourself because you have a learning disability.  If someone asks you why you go to LD classes just tell them that you learn differently than they do and those classes help you.  BELIEVE and act like you are important, because you are.

BECOME AN EXPERT!

An LD kid can become an expert just like anyone else.  Come up with some things that kids your age are interested in and choose one.  Find out as much as you can about it, you can ask someone like your teacher .  This is a good way to get attention, have others ask you for help in what you are doing, make new friends and most importantly stay out of trouble.

JOIN SCHOOL ACTIVITIES!

School is always more fun when you join in and do more than just school work.  Take part in school plays, clubs or sports.  You can even help plan these things, let your teachers know if you want help.  You can even get your family involved to make it even more fun and exciting.

STAY OUT OF TROUBLE!

For many LD kids schoolwork is often too hard or boring so goofing off is much more fun.  This isn't a good idea though, it just gets you in trouble and makes other people upset.  When you see kids messing around just ignore them, keep doing your schoolwork and you'll feel better about yourself.  This is information that you can use you whole life, just apply it to whatever you are doing at the time.  For instance, at home or at your place of work, it works like a charm.
