The Job Market of Southwest Florida

In recent years Southwest Florida, particularly Lee and Collier county have hit a growth spurt. In 2000 Lee county's population was at 430,273; five years later it's grown to 478,563. In 2010 Lee county's population is estimated to reach 525,725. This rapid population increase has both its positive and negative contributing factors for the economy. Population growth can stimulate economic prosperity. The negative aspect to population growth is a high unemployment rate or low labor force, stress on resources and may also raise prices of supplies due to supply and demand. Surprisingly enough Lee county has one of the lowest unemployment rates standing at 2.9% and one of the hottest job markets in the country. In the links below you will find the highest paying jobs, the fastest growing jobs, jobs most in demand as well as jobs that offer benefits in Southwest Florida.

Southwest Florida is one of the most popular areas for tourists and retired folks to visit, whether it is a few days or a few months, Florida's fall and winter weather is ideal for visitors. Southwest Florida has a net migration of 30,550 people a year. Thank you tourists and seasonal residents! You're the reason why Floridians do not have state income tax, although you visitors don't help with the traffic situation. Florida has defined seasonal fluctuation; the spring and summer mark the dry or "slow" season, where as the fall and winter months bring, mass loads of tourists and old people. This defined seasonal change affects our economy astronomically. In the spring and summer months, unemployment is relatively high due to the lack of jobs offered. This is completely shifted once the fall and winter months roll around. In the links below are graphs presenting Southwest Florida's unemployment rate, labor force, and population increase.
