Bibliography (5 pts.)
By this date, you should have done enough library research to have
a variety of resources for your topic, including books, web pages
and primary literature. Be sure to consult the Resources
pages on this website.
- Annotated
Bibliography (15 pts)
This is your critical evaluation of a subset of the resources you
will be using to prepare your poster. When you are working on the
poster, and the annotated bibliography, make sure you have a wide
variety of resources (at least 10). Be sure to find material at
the molecular level. For example, genetics; what chromosome a particular
the organism may have, or how a metabolic pathway works. Is there
a genetic condition that is related to your topic? Is one type of
organism or race more susceptible than another to a particular condition
or disease? Be sure to consult the
rubric for guidelines for this assignment and the criteria
for the final project.
- Poster
Draft (25 pts)
Bring in the material you have for the poster, as close to finished
as possible so that I can give you some feedback on how well I think
you are meeting the goals and outcomes of the assignment.
This should include references and abstract. An abstract is
a summary of everything that is in a paper (or in this case a poster).
This must be 100 words or less. References should be cited within
the text of your poster.
It is not necessary (or even desired) to have the material mounted,
but you could include a paper that shows how you intend to lay them
out. You can look at the poster presentation
online if you want to see some finished ones.
My goal is to help you get the poster nearly finished so you aren't
stressed at the last minute. This way I can give you some feedback
on how well I think you are meeting the goals and outcomes of the
assignment I have outlined on the web page so that you can get the
best grade possible.
50% - Final
Poster Presentation - 50 points awarded on the
following criteria:
RELEVANCE -- Is there an explicit connection
to Cellular and Molecular biology? How well is it demonstrated? (10
points)
CONTENT - Does
this poster demonstrate an increase in knowledge in terms of structure-function
relationships, technological advances that have helped gain knowledge
and/or the scientific method? (10 points)
RESEARCHED
-BASED - Are the resources properly referenced? Are there
at least 10 "good" resources? Are the resources diverse and in sufficient
depth to constitute University level knowledge? (that is, are there
any scientific review articles, primary resources included?) Are all
quotes properly referenced and cited or is there evidence of plagiarism?
(5 points)
AESTHETIC
- Is the poster/web page visually effective? (5 points)
ACCURACY
- How well did the author respond to questions from the audience?
Were their answers clear and in sufficient detail to increase knowledge
and understanding of the audience? Did the answers demonstrate a detailed
knowledge of the topic being presented? (10 points)
BREVITY
- Was the abstract a clear concise statement of the main points
of the poster or web page? (5 points)
