Objectives:
Perform the technique of the physical exam.
Demonstrate correct use of equipment used during physical exam.
Identify parameters of the general survey.
Perform a general survey.
Document findings of the general survey in an acceptable format.

Describe the steps of the Cardiac and Peripheral Vascular assessment.
Recognize the normal parameters and common variations of the Cardiac and Peripheral Vascular assessment.
Systematically perform the Cardiac and Peripheral Vascular assessment
Document the Cardiac and Peripheral Vascular assessment in an acceptable format.

  • Bring: Stethoscope, textbook, workbook
  • Need in Lab: Centimeter ruler
  • Readings: Seidel et al. Chapter 13
  • Workbook: Chapter 13 - anatomy review, p. 104 - concepts application
  • Define: gallop rhythm, pericarditis, thrill, PMI, S1, S2, S3, S4, murmur.
  • Videos: Neck Vessels and Heart, Cardiac Auscultation.
  • Interactive Challenge: Heart and Blood Vessels.
  • Practice: Assessment of the heart & neck vessels.
  • Document: Findings on flow sheet and in a narrative note.
