Plasmodium vivax

Plasmodium vivax. Thin blood film (Giemsa's stain, oil immersion). Two mature female gametocytes (macrogametocytes) are present. In one, the compact red chromatin mass lies at the periphery of the enlarged, stippled red blood cell, and in the other it is central in position. Dark pigment grains are scattered in the cytoplasm. A young trophozoite is present in a red blood cell, which neither is enlarged nor contains Schüffner's stippling.
