Module 5
Internal Conditions for Learning
Supportive conditions are those that would allow the learning to occur more readily, but without which the learning may still occur. The book offers the example of an attitude of confidence. It seems reasonable to argue that such an attitude would aid almost all learning.
Can you identify other
conditions that are supportive?
Are
these conditions supportive of all types of learning, or
only some?
Is it
possible to have a condition that is supportive of some
types of learning and detrimental to
others?
Essential conditions are those that must exist internally for the learner to be able to learn more. Examples of essential conditions include possessing motor skills prior to learning to throw a football, or possessing certain verbal information prior to learning car repair.
Consider some of the different essential prerequisites that exist for each of the 5 domains of learning.
Do you believe that your own approach to teaching acknowledges the importance of these conditions?
