Always read in a quiet place. |

Use a ruler to keep your place while you are reading. |

Use the pictures in your book to help you read. |
|
Make a word bank of all the words you don't know. Make sure you look them up in a dictionary. |
|
Make up a story and have someone else write it down. Then YOU go back and read it. |
|
Use a reading guide (Cliff notes) that will help you understand what you are reading. |
|
Share what you have read with an adult or a friend. |
|
Make up titles for paragraphs that you read. That might help you remember what you read when you go back. |

Take notes while you read. |
|
Read silly books, magazines, and the comics. Read for fun! |
|
Use your senses. Snap, clap, and tap your spelling words. |
|
Make a word bank of the words you are having trouble with. |
|
Make up crossword puzzles. |
|
Make your own dictionary. |
|
Make up word searches. |
|
Write the words with letters missing and then go back and fill in the blank. |
|
Practice writing your spelling words. |
|
Get a special dictionary that spells words how they sound and spell them correctly so you can find if you don't know the spelling. |
