Charcot-Leyden Crystals
Charcot-Leyden crystals — fecal smear
(trichrome stain, oil immersion). These crystals are formed from the breakdown
products of eosinophils and indicate the presence of a non-specific immune response
in the patient. The crystals may be present in a parasitic infection (primarily
helminths) or in allergic conditions unrelated to a specific etiologic agent.
