Class Assignment:

Read the assigned text chapters first and be prepared to be examined on session10 on any or all of the terms, concepts and the content of the case study. For this week's homework, answer the study questions at the end of Chapter 5 of The Environmental Case, as well as the following questions:

1.       How is are the concepts inherent to deep ecology reflected in The Clean Air Act?

2.       Where does a nested ecological perspective fall within Mercier's "upstream" and "downstream" model.

3.       How is an "ecology of not" reflected in the proposed "cap and trade" legislation?

4.       What sort of environmental policy options might a person who advocates "necessary anthropocentrism" and "necessary utilitarianism" favor?

5.       Do you feel that "good enough" solutions to climate change are "good enough?"

6.       Do you feel that the planet's environmental challenges are of such magnitude that they justify the use of environmental education as a means to change the character of citizens? Discuss the pros and cons of this "ends justifies the means" scenario.
