      What is a portfolio?

A portfolio is a systematic, organized collection of evidence used by the student and teacher to monitor the growth of the student’s knowledge, skills, and attitudes in specific subject areas.
What is the purpose of a professional portfolio?

The goal of this portfolio assignment is to encourage the development of educators who through the continual, reflective process demonstrate excellence in the facilitation of student learning in a pluralistic society.  The purpose of this portfolio is to illustrate who you are now and who you want to be as a teacher.  Just as artists keep portfolios of their best and ongoing works, this portfolio should be a reflection of your current and emerging self as a preprofessional or professional teacher.  Each chapter of this portfolio should contain entries that illustrate evidence of your accomplishments in designated areas.

        1) Each entry must be preceded by a half-page rationale (typed, double-spaced) that illustrates your expertise in the area of the Accomplished Practice.

A RESUME' WILL BE AN INTEGRAL PART OF EACH PORTFOLIO (see the instructor for an example).

What are the criteria for developing and assessing a professional portfolio?

        1)  Your name and the title "Portfolio" must appear on the spine of the binder of your
portfolio, on the cover, and on the cover page.
        2)  Your professional resume’ should be placed after the table of contents and before the
          12 accomplished practices extended dividers.
        3)  Written documents must be word processed.
        4)  Correct grammar, spelling, and varied sentence structure must be used.
        5)  A Table of Contents must be included (see example).
        6)  All accomplished practices must be separated by typed tabs.
        7)  A rationale for each of the two Accomplished Practices must be included.
        8)  All pages must be included in individual plastic sleeves. ( 2 per sleeve)
        9)  A scoring rubric will be used to evaluate your portfolio.
10)Your name should appear as a header on each page.
        11) Certificates and awards may be included.
