Turban/McLean/Wetherbe: Information Technology for Management. Transforming Organizations in the Digital Economy. 4th Edition, Wiley 2004.
The goal of this course is to present the necessary
skills to make decisions about the computing architecture on an enterprise-wide
scale. Students will learn the core challenges and limitations that make this
task difficult, as well as the current solutions for the respective task.
Students will understand the
transformation of the business world currently in progress and look behind the
buzzwords. A special focus will be on the role of Enterprise Resource Planning Systems
(ERP) and the integration of multiple systems.
One has not understood a matter until one is able
to apply the knowledge. Thus, it is my personal goal to empower you to use the abstract
concepts contained in the textbook for current and future real-world scenarios.
This overall goal determines both the way of instruction in the classroom and
the character of all exams and assignments. Very frequently you will need to
explain concepts with your own words or apply them to a case study. This requires that you ask questions in
class if you are not sure whether you have understood a specific topic.
The final grade will be determined by your
performance in
-
2 midterm exams (40 %),
-
homework assignments (30 %), and
-
your participation in class (30 %).
For the
assignments and exams, the following grades are given.

With regard to the participation grade, you may
receive between 0 (no show) and 4 (excellent contributions) points per week.
According to the grade weights as outlined above
(40 / 30 / 30 %), the final grade will be determined using the following
formula:
Final
Score = (Exam_Average*4 + Assignment_Average*3 +
Participation_Average*3)/10
The final
score will be transformed into the final grade using the following table:
