1. Why do you believe there was a problem in the professionalization of history? Who did history prior to the end of the 19th century? Did this change as "talk" of professionalization arose? Why or why not?

3. What did the Annales school do to the study and writing of history? Why are art, music, cartoons, etc., important in understanding the past?
4. How did the historians noted in the chapter entitled "Repression and Exile" contribute to the "reevaluation" of history in Russia and other totalitarian governments in the later 20th century?
5. The study/research of history changed dramatically after the Vietnam War and the internal unrest in the US. How did World War II change the study/research of history? Do you see it as a good or bad change? Why?
