What do I need in my computer to access the course web page?
 
  • 1. You need to subscribe to an Internet Service Provider (AOL, AT&T, MSN, etc.) to be able to connect to the Internet.

    2. To access your course web page, first you need to have a web browser (e.g., Netscape 3.0 or higher, Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher) installed in your computer.

    3. Once you have a web browser installed and opened in your computer, you need to type in the URL of the course web site.

  What is a URL?
 
  • A Uniform Resource Locator (URL) is basically the address of any resource on the Internet. Once you type the URL of a specific web site in your browser, then it will connect you to that site. (e.g., http://www.fgcu.edu )

    NOTE : You need to ask your instructor for the URL of the course web page.
     

  1.  
    • 1. Click on your web browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer) to open browser in your system.

      2. Click on FILE and drag your cursor to OPEN, then to LOCATION ON NAVIGATOR (for those using Netscape) and release.

      3. A dialogue box will show on your screen. Type the URL of a web site (e.g., http:// www.fgcu.edu ) and click OPEN.

  2. 1. Go to any of the search engine web site (e.g., www.yahoo.com , www.infoseek.com , www.altavista.com , etc.)

    2. Choose three course-related words or concepts that you will use as search terms.

    3. Type these words or concepts into search dialogue box and click ENTER or GO.

    4. Once the system displays the results of the search, screen the web sites for high relevance.

    5. Choose the three most relevant web sites and e-mail the address to your instructor.
