  3. Define and explain how data can be manipulated
  4. Determine which hardware technology is most appropriate and can be used in healthcare organizations

  6. Understand the difference between interfaced and integrated systems
  7. List the five generations of programming languages and briefly describe the characteristics of each
  8. List the different software applications available that can be used in a healthcare environment

These notes are intended only to supplement your readings. The best way to ensure each module is absorbed is to complete all the readings prior to reviewing these lecture notes. I will try to highlight what I believe to be the most important topics from your module readings. If you have any questions or concerns or there is something you do not understand, please ask me. You can either post on the webboard the question you have (that way others can benefit from the response), or you can e-mail me if you want a more private response. Either way it is extremely important that you have a complete and thorough understanding of the material for the module.

For the majority of you, if not all of you, these two chapters should be review. Especially since you are in the elite group of "distance learners", the basics of computer hardware and software should not be foreign. These chapters are still essential as building blocks before we move on in our course. There are no additional lecture notes to supplement your readings for this module. Ensure that you understand the chapters and can answer all of the objectives stated above before your WebBoard discussion topic is addressed.
That is it for notes for module #4! Let me know if you have any questions.
