TOPICS FOR MODULE 6

This issue is one of the most important topics to understand in health care information systems. It is essential for proper planning, implementation and usage of any technology in healthcare. Please discuss the following question on the web board:

• What data fields do you feel are essential to a patient medical record?  In other words, what information do you feel is required to set up a medical records database?
• What data model (hierarchical, network, relational) is most advantageous to use when designing a patient medical record? Why/Why not?

Once you have gathered your thoughts, please post your response on the bulletin board prior to 5pm on Friday, February 21nd. Also, you are responsible for responding to the postings of other students. All students must participate in the student web board discussion for the week before the deadline to receive credit for participation. This will make it necessary for you to visit the bulletin board several times during the course of the week.
