Students are expected to engage in a group discussion of the module bulletin board topic. This may mean having to visit the webboard several times during the week. Responses of "I agree" or "I disagree" or anything similar to that without further explanation are not considered satisfactory participation. Comments made should add to the discussion and not just reiterate what has already been stated. Late postings will not be given credit and technology is not an excuse for failing to complete this assignment.
The postings will be graded using the following point system:
Check Plus - These are few and far between. A check plus is worth
three points toward your final class participation grade and is considered
"extra credit". You must fulfill all requirements of a "check" and add something
extra. You should go above and beyond what is asked and give something extra
to the class.
Check - This is worth two points toward your final class participation
grade. You must answer the question and participate in the webboard discussion.
This is considered an average grade.
Check Minus - A check minus is worth one point toward your final
class participation grade. Relevant comment posted but no interaction with
the group or comments that are posted are not relevant or mimic comments
already made by other students. This is considered a below average grade.
Zero - No postings made
Discuss with your classmates some real life uses of expert systems in health care for administrative applications. What specific problem/situation do you feel that an expert system could be used for to save time, money, and other types of resources. Remember, the systems should be used to make decisions in the absence of a human being and deal with administrative areas (in other words, do not list clinical applications).
Once you have gathered your thoughts, please post your response on the bulletin board prior to 5pm on Friday, March 28th. Also, you are responsible for responding to the postings of other students. All students must participate in the student webboard discussion for the week before the deadline to receive credit for participation. This will make it necessary for you to visit the bulletin board several times during the course of the week. Your participation grade will depend on the quality of your initial responses as well as your interaction and responses to the postings made by other students.
