I am excited about doing Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition (LIN 5010) via distance. As you know one of our basic guiding principles in teaching is that we need to allow time for students to experience, try out, and ask questions in order to learn. Immediate feedback is also essential for the learning/teaching process. Obviously, in a distance learning course this on going direct communication is altered somewhat. It is up to us to look into our personal learning/teaching experiences and share those with other members of this class in order to make our ideas meaningful. Remember: we are not going to be able to read into "body language", "facial expressions", only into written words... |
