Performance Requirements:

        a. initiate personal care, health, and fitness activities

        b. carry out the steps of personal care, health, and fitness activities

        c. conduct themselves in ways that are safe and appropriate for particular personal care,              health, and fitness activities

Performance Context and Suggested Activities:

    *dressing activities, such as ]

         getting dress in the morning

         trying on clothes in a department store

         changing clothes for gym

    *personal hygiene activities, such as

         using deodorant

         brushing teeth

         washing hands before eating

    *grooming activities, such as

         combing and styling hair

         shaving when needed or desired

         applying make-up when desired

    *toileting activities

         at home

         at school or work

         in the community

    *health care activities, such as

         taking medication

            caring for wounds

         monitoring nutrition or fitness

   *participating in physical fitness activities, such as

         cardiovascular exercise

         a completing a home laundry routine

         using unfamiliar laundry machine

         removing stains

    *cleaning their domestic environments by

         dusting

            vacuuming

         clearing the dinner table

    *caring for the yard

            raking leaves

            watering

            mowing the lawn

    *caring for and preparing food by

         putting away groceries

         storing leftovers

            making a snack

    *performing routine household maintenance and minor repairs

            replacing a light bulb

         using a plunger to unplug a drain

    *completing school and community work assignments individually by

            sweeping the floors in the classroom

            packaging materials  

         dusting shelves in a grocery store

    *completing school and community work assignments as part of a group by

            washing cars at a car wash

            assembling orders in a restaurant

            gathering materials for a class picnic

   *completing school and community work assignments that require perseverance

            because they take a long time

            because they are difficult

            because they are not enjoyable

    *completing school and community work assignments in environments with distractions, such as

         in a noisy classroom

            in a store full of people

            outside near a busy street

Expectation 4 - complete activities requiring transactions in the community

Expectation 5 - Participate effectively in group situations

Performance Requirements;

        a. conduct themselves in ways that are appropriate to particular group situations

        c. advocate for themselves within group situations

Performance Contexts and Suggested Activities:

*participating in unstructured individual activities in group contexts, such as

            swinging in the park

         listening to music during free time at work

         exercising at the gym

    *participating in unstructured interactions, such as

         conversing with a peer on the phone

         talking to a boss at work

         eating lunch with co-workers in the cafeteria

    *participating in structured group activities as individuals while

            completing a work project

         playing a board game

         playing competitive sports

    *participating in structured group activities as members of teams by

         playing baseball

         playing a team card game

         participating in a relay

Expectation 6 - Respond effectively to unexpected events and potentially harmful situations

Performance Requirements:

        a. initiate appropriate responses to unexpected events and potentially harmful situations

        b. persist with or modify their responses until the situations are resolved

Performance Contexts and Suggested Activities;

    *handling disruptions of routines, such as

            the equipment they are using doesn't work

            someone being late picking them up

         the supplies they need are missing

    *confronting potentially unsafe interactions with people, like

            being approached by a stranger

            being treated badly by familiar persons

            being pressured by familiar persons to do something dangerous

    *responding to emergencies, such as

            a fire

            someone becomes ill or is injured

            someone breaking into the house

Expectation 7 - Manage unstructured time

Performance Requirements:

        a. initiate appropriate activities to manage unstructured time

        b. persevere at initial activities in an appropriate manner or initiate other appropriate                  activities as needed to keep themselves occupied

Performance Contexts and Suggested Activities:

    *at home

         while waiting to be picked up for work

         between work and dinner on the weekend

    *in the community

         while waiting at the doctor's office

         during a bus ride

         while waiting in line at a store

    *at their work site or at school

         during break time

         while waiting for the bus

         while waiting for help from their teacher or supervisor

Expectation 8 - Proceed appropriately toward the fulfillment of personal

Performance Requirements:

        a identify what their goals or desires are

        b. follow procedures (identified with input from an adult) to attain their goals

        c. adjust to circumstances that are beyond their control

Performance Contexts and Suggested Activities:

    *working toward vocational and other productivity interests,such as

            volunteering in the community

         changing jobs

            obtaining jobs they want

    *working toward desires for relationships, such as

         developing friendships

            working on projects with particular persons

         dating someone

    *working toward recreational or leisure interests, such as

         developing hobbies or athletic skills

         going on trips

            playing a musical instrument

            attaining a degree of independence

            selecting where they would like to live
