It's the Law -

Public Law 99-457

WHO DOES THIS INCLUDE?

This law provides services for infants and preschoolers who have been identified with developmental delays or who are at–risk for developing a developmental delay.  A developmental delay can include a lack of development in speech, cognitive, social, physical or emotional skills.   For more information on Public Law 99-457 as well as others related to exceptional education contact The National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (NICHCY).

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A DELAY HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED?

An intervention plan, commonly called the Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP), is put into place after a complete evaluation has been done.   Typically, if the child is age birth through two an IFSP is written.  If your child is ages 3-5 than an Individual Education Plan (IEP) is written.
