Zoonoses
Toxocara canis. Egg in fecal smear
(unstained, high power). This large egg, though never seen in human feces, is
common in dogs, especially puppies. Its significance lies in the fact that ingestion
by humans, especially children, of infective eggs from contaminated soil may
result in visceral larva migrans. The egg has a thick, pitted shell and is unembryonated
when passed in feces.
