Schistosoma spp.

Schistosoma mekongi. Egg in fecal smear (unstained, high power). The eggs of S. mekongi closely resemble those of S. japonicum except that they are smaller (51- 78 µm by 39-66 µm). As in S. japonicum, the small spine may not be readily apparent when the egg is surrounded by fecal debris or when the egg is oriented so that the spine lies on the underside, However, in this picture, the spine is easily seen.
