Schistosoma spp.

Schistosoma intercalatum. Egg in fecal smear (unstained, scanning power). This egg is usually larger (140-240 µm long) than the egg of S. haematobium and occurs in feces, not in urine. As seen here, there is an equatorial bulge in the egg that may vary in prominence. The terminal spine is usually longer, slightly curved, and more sharply pointed than the terminal spine in S. haematobium eggs.
