Plasmodium malariae

Plasmodium malariae. Thin blood film (Giemsa's stain, oil immersion). A growing trophozoite in the characteristic "band form" is seen in this infected, normal-sized red blood cell. The red chromatin mass is elongated and some brown pigment grains can be seen at the periphery of the cytoplasm.
