Plasmodium falciparum

Plasmodium falciparum. Thick blood film (Giemsa's stain, oil immersion). A large number of ring forms surround a large polymorphonuclear leukocyte in this field. The presence of large numbers of ring stages, in the absence of gametocytes or other stages, suggests P. falciparum infection.
