Echinococcus granulosis
Echinococcus granulosus. Hydatid
sand (unstained, high power). Aspiration of fluid from a hydatid cyst may yield
numerous scoleces that bear hooklets and are referred to as hydatid sand. Characteristically
the scoleces are invaginated into their own bodies, but when placed in saline
solution, as here, they will evaginate.
