Hookworm
Hookworm egg containing larva, iodine
wet preparation. When a fecal specimen is left at room temperature for long
periods of time, hookworm eggs will continue to develop and may hatch prior
to fixation. For this reason, every larva that is found in the stool should
be carefully examined to differentiate between hookworm and Strongyloides,
which are normally passed out as the larval form and not the egg.
