An Environmental Problem and Solutions

Paper Two is due in Class Five.  It will be graded and should be a minimum of four pages in length, double-spaced, typed. Your paper shall be evaluated according to the criteria presented by the assessment rubric and by your section instructor. This paper is an overview of a selected environmental problem based on a chapter of your choice in State of the World 2003.

  • State the problem you have chosen to write about and give your reaction to it.
  • Do you agree it is a problem? If so, how can we develop policy to move toward sustainable solutions?
  • What are the underlying causes of the crisis?
  • Think about the causes from global, national, social, political, economic, business, and personal perspectives. How do we do add to the crisis? What can we do to lessen our impact (as individuals or societies)?
  • Do you see signs of hope and success?Ê How does this reading make you feel?
  • What Òcommon endeavorsÓ can we begin?Ê What can the United States do?Ê What can you do?
  • How does the "ecological footprint" concept influence your thinking about the problem?
  • What might a sustainable solution look like?
