Stages of Cognitive Development
*In his last writings, Piaget began
to talk about substages in the Formal
Operational period. Therefore, so
writings suggest a 5th stage, although this
is not really a true separate stage.
**The ages noted are approximations.
In fact, Piaget ahs come under much
criticism over the years for failing
to recognize that his original age groupings
underrated the abilities of small
children.
Infancy- Sensorimotor Stage
Development based on information obtained through the
senses or body movements
Development of understanding of object permanence
Development of goal directed actions and reversible
actions
