Timing is everything

• In the S =>R model, the temporal placement of stimulus and response are critical. This model suggests that the organism's response (R) always follows a particular environmental stimuli (S). Researchers in this area recognize that the Conditioned Stimulus (CS) and the Unconditioned Stimulus (US) may be presented in slightly different temporal arrangements.
  • If the CS and the US are presented at precisely the same time, the pairing is referred to as simultaneous conditioning.
  • If the CS starts before the US starts, the pairing is referred to as delayed conditioning.
  • Is the CS is presented  and terminated prior to the beginning of the US, the pairing is referred to as trace conditioning.
