Something to think about . . . . discourse communities
As members of this class we represent a discourse community.
A discourse community is an exotic cultural grouping of individuals built around particular areas of research and shared meaning of relevant constructs.
All of these are discourse communities. They each represent a group of individuals sharing some common knowledge. What creates the culture that is a feature of this group is the shared meaning among experience.
The key to community or underlying culture is the idea of shared meaning of relevant constructs.
This class is built around knowledge, although as we begin the class, we may not have a shared meaning of this construct.
One purpose of this introductory module is to begin to create a shared meaning of knowledge that we can all use to understand our learning to date as well as future learning.
