Children’s Attributions

On entering school, children attribute abiltiy to effort: unstable and controllable n As they move through, they attribute ability to heredity: stable and uncontrollable n Younger children remain more optimistic following failure than older.

Gender Differences

Males more likely to attribute success to ability, failure to effort – "I know I can do this. I have the ability."

Females attribute success to effort and failure to ability – "I don’t know if I can keep on trying this, because I’m not very good at this type of thing."
