This figure represents the basic Alexander et al model.
Note that the arrows represents the influence that each area has on every other area. This ongoing influence creates the dynamic interaction that is an important component of the model.
Not labeled, but equally important is the circle which encapsulates conceptual and metacognitive knowledge, and which interacts with the individual's construction of knowledge. This circle represents the cultural envelope, the world in which the individual exists.
