TOPICS FOR MODULE 16

The IM System was designed and implemented by JCAHO to support the survey and accreditation process. The system is discussed in your reading on page 158-163. It includes 42 indicator measurements designed to be reliable and valid indicators of an organization's health care service and delivery. A sample report for indicator 6 is included in figures 11-2 and 11-3. Review and discuss this system of analysis and the sample report with your classmates and then answer the following questions.

1. Do you find this a useful system of analysis and would you support it's availability to the public?
2. Why would number of patients delivered by cesarean section be important?
3. What are the major findings based upon the two charts and what do these findings mean?

Once you have gathered your thoughts, please post your response on the bulletin board prior to 5pm on Friday, May 3rd. Also, you are responsible for responding to the postings of other students. All students must participate in the student webboard discussion for the week before the deadline to receive credit for participation. This will make it necessary for you to visit the bulletin board several times during the course of the week. Your participation grade will depend on the quality of your initial responses as well as your interaction and responses to the postings made by other students.
