Information Systems Design Proposal

This assignment will be done individually and turned in no later than 3/11/02 at 9:00 am.

This project is intended to give you an opportunity to put what you have learned to date to work!  Your job is to design a proposal for an information system in a health care organization.  Be creative and see what you can come up with.  Provide answers and justification for these answers to the following questions about an information systems design of your creation. The organization must be health care related and you must use what you have learned to date.  I expect that along with your answers you have sufficient narrative to provide support for your decisions. Provide references as needed for this proposal.  This assignment will be counted as double and you will have two weeks to complete it.  Good luck!

  1. What healthcare organization are you going to plan and design an information system for?
  2. What is that organization's mission and and what are the goals? How are you going to align the goals for the system with the organization's goals?
  3. What are the objectives of your health care information system? For example, to store patient records and have immediate availability when needed by a health care provider.
  4. What are the departments that should be involved? What are the major functions of the departments? In other words, what departments in your organization will be using the new system and what will their functions be. For example, the lab will be using the system for patient billing of procedures.
  5. What information is needed from each department? What input is needed to achieve that department's function in regard to the new system. In keeping with the lab example above, we would need to know the procedure done and the cost for each patient.
