Health Care Information Systems

Journaling Project

Purpose

The purpose of this project is for the student to keep a record of ideas and topics discussed in this class. These ideas will be compared and contrasted with current local or national events in the media as they relate to healthcare information systems. It is intended that upon completion of the the journal, the reader will be able to see an evolution and growth in the student's assessment of events as they pertain to health care technology.

Guidelines

  1. Keep an ongoing weekly journal that reflects topics in class and relates these topics to current events in healthcare information technology.
  2. The journal should have a minimum of 5 entries, dated with citations correctly referenced to current events. Include the actual articles being discussed within each entry.
  3. Journal style is informal, although there should be no spelling errors, typos, punctuation or grammar errors. All entries should be typewritten, double-spaced, in 12 point font.
  4. Completed journal is due to instructor by April 15th, 2002. The journal that is turned in will be one document that contains all 5 entries and a cover sheet that includes student name, course title and instructor's name.
  5. A concluding entry should be included stating what you have gained from the experiences in this course and how this will benefit you in your future career choice.

Grading and Submission Criteria

The journal is worth a total of 20 points toward your final grade, 5 points per journal entry.. Late journals will be accepted with a deduction of 2 points/day (10%) from the due date until it is submitted to the instructor. Journals will be graded based on the guidelines stated above. Each entry will be worth 5 points and any additional entries will be considered for extra credit. I would suggest keeping up with your entries throughout the semester, rather than saving them until the end.

It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the instructor has received the journal, regardless of how the journal is being submitted. If the journal is electronically submitted, the student is responsible for checking with the instructor PRIOR TO THE DEADLINE to be certain the correct and current version of the journal has been received in full. The journal may be turned in the following four ways:

1. as an e-mail attachment to kmarino@fgcu.edu

2. fax to FGCU, Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at 941-590-7474 to the attention of Karma D. Marino

3. (snail) mail to: Karma D. Marino, FGCU, College of Health Professions, Division of Health Sciences, 10501 FGCU Blvd. S., Ft Myers, Fl. 33965-6565

GOOD LUCK!!
