Schistosoma spp.
Schistosoma japonicum. Egg in
feces (unstained, high power). The eggs of this fluke are smaller (70-100 µm
by 55-65 µm) than those of S. mansoni and S. haematobium.
They are ovoid and have a thin, clear shell and a spine or hooklike structure
that may be inconspicuous. These eggs, like the other schistosome eggs, contain
a miracidium when passed in feces. Frequently, fecal debris adheres to the egg
shell, making them difficult to see.
