Giardia lamblia
Giardia lamblia. Trophozoite in
fecal smear (trichrome stain, oil immersion). This trophozoite exhibits the
characteristic pyriform shape and contains two anteriorly placed nuclei, one
on either side of the longitudinally oriented axonemes. The slightly curved,
transverse median bodies lie slightly below the nuclei. Because they stain poorly,
flagella are rarely seen in such stained specimens.
